New 2012 ABC Motion Reel

We are hyped to shout out the release of the new Already Been Chewed motion reel. The reel is a montage of Barton Damer’s motion design work. We joined forces with the organizers of the D-town Throwdown Skateboard Competition to premiere the video on the large HD screen at the American Airlines Center in Victory Plaza, home of the Dallas Mavericks. We were stoked to debut Barton’s most recent work to fellow skaters and artists at such a sick event. – John

ABC x Flame Top the Charts

Last week Flame’s album, The 6th, debuted at #1 in the TOP Hip Hop/Rap Albums on iTunes Music. For this album cover Barton worked with the hip-hop recording artist to bring to life a concept that illustrates the name and meaning of his newest album. This being Flame’s 6th album, he requested to have a number “6″ built out of various elements with biblical and anthropological meaning representing temptation. Rob Dyrdek’s Street League

With over 40 years of collective skateboarding experience at ABC, working with Rob Dyrdek and Street League has been a dream come true for Barton and me. We have recently teamed up with Street League to create animated intros for the Monster Mic’d Up, Contest Highlights, and Monster Best Trick videos currently featured on Street League’s WEBSITE. ABC at 3DPDX and Nike

We had a great trip up to Portland a couple weeks ago. Barton was invited by MAXON to speak on his use of C4D for design, illustration and animation at 3DPDX, a user group for 3d artists, animators, and designers. It was awesome to meet some great designers from all over the greater Portland area. While in town, we were able to schedule a couple meetings with Nike at their campus in Beaverton, OR. We landed projects with the Nike Skateboarding and Surfing divisions! It was amazing to experience life at Nike and fan out at the Michael Jordan building. We extended our stay a few days to direct a video shoot at the Nike Private Skatepark and even got to take in a Blazers game. Thank you Portland! Can’t wait till next time!

Advanced Photoshop “Ride”

This piece was was created as a full page illustration and featured as a step-by-step workshop in ADVANCED PHOTOSHOP ISSUE 91. The concept was inspired by my experience starting Already Been Chewed LLC and going into business for myself. I wanted the roller coaster to symbolize the ups and downs, scary and exhilarating moments of life. Hold on and enjoy the ride!

VEER CREATIVE CATALYST

I’m really grateful that I won the Veer Creative Catalyst competition. Veer is a highly regarded resource in the design industry. As a result of winning 1st place, my work was put on display at Onedotzero in London as well as projected in public spaces in Berlin (see pic below). Veer also donated $2,000 to the charity of my choice, Malaria No More.

The video below tells more about the competition and includes a couple clips from me in there.

DREAM X THE BERRICS

About a year ago I helped a group of extremely talented skateboarders put together some design and motion work for a contest they were entering for The Berrics. They ended up winning the contest and beating out videos submitted from across the globe. The prize was a week long – all expenses paid trip – to film and skate at The Berrics, a legendary training facility within the skateboard community. What makes this opportunity so unique is the amount of exposure each one of these guys receives by being seen on The Berrics. Only time will tell if they go on to be pro as a result of this trip. It’s a pleasure to skate with these guys here in Dallas and it was a blast to be able to go with them and watch them throw down a lot of these tricks. Watch what they accomplished in a very quick 4 days of filming:

LIVE VISUALS AT STORY

Creating concert visuals are always a blast! This year for Story, Ben Arment enlisted me to break out some old-school VJ skills from back in the day with an added twist. The visuals were created to blend with the live footage using Arkaos GrandVJ. It’s pretty amazing to be able to accept a live camera feed and have it present this way with the graphics in real time. Kudos to Arkaos and thanks to Ben for another fun year at Story.

STEVIE WILLIAMS BRANDING

I worked with Stevie Williams to establish a personal brand that he can begin to display on various pro models – shoes, boards, watches, hats… you name it. Stevie is not only the founder and owner of DGK, but he’s always been inspirational to me having grown up only a few hours away from the Love Park skate scene that is so legendary. Recently, he revealed the logo at a release party in Atlanta at the DGK private skate park, Da Playground. Here are some pics from the event (Ludacris in the house!!)

DWIGHT HOWARD TEASER VID

Earlier this year, I worked with Tractorbeam to develop a teaser for the release of Dwight Howard’s own colorway for C-Prime. Going into the shoot, Tractorbeam had no idea of knowing how much time they’d get with Dwight or if it would be on the fly. Once they arrived, Dwight was amazing to work with and was totally down to take pics, change outfits… whatever we needed. I think it threw everyone off because we were expecting a talking head video that would be a bit more infomercial-ish. Tractorbeam received killer photography from Chris McEniry which led to the idea to create a teaser using mainly his photography and my motion design. I jumped at the opportunity to work with my favorite DJ, Dust – from Mars Ill, who created the killer beat based off of some ideas I threw his way. And of course, turn around was ridic.

The project included other videos from various athletes like A-Rod.

DAVID C COOK ANIMATION

It was great to work with the good people over at David C Cook Publishing. The idea behind this logo animation was to tell the story of David C Cook and the various ways it’s impacting people around the globe – and tell that story in :9 seconds as a bumper for video content that will be produced for them.

It was also great working with the guys at Defacto Sound for the great sound design.

LONDON’S ARSENAL FOOTBALL

A few months ago, I worked with a Creative Agency out of London to create artwork to be used as part of an installation in the Club Level of the Arsenal’s Stadium. The theme was retro movie posters and was originally intended to be a 16 foot tall piece. The client ended up going a different direction with the agency which could’ve been a real heart breaker if I were a (soccer) fan. Regardless, working with the agency was a great experience and I look forward to more gigs like this!
